American Society for Jewish Music

The American Society for Jewish Music's Charlie Bernhaut Collection of Jewish and Cantorial Music is a repository of sound recordings and a database intended for researchers, students and all those who have an interest in Jewish music. The collection contains more than 17,000 recordings dating from the early twentieth century to the present day. We are in the process of cataloging and digitizing the collection, a portion of which is available on this site.

The searchable database that organizes the material on the site is part of a larger scholarly research project entitled The Database of Jewish Music Sound Recordings, whose goal is to provide both information and digitized sound of all commercially issued Jewish-music recordings.

Please note this is not a free music download site. You will need to register to use this site. User accounts must be renewed every six months. The digitized recordings, graphics of the labels and liner notes are intended to further the study and preservation of Jewish music.

Material available through the database may be under copyright protection and should not be downloaded or reproduced. Because of the copyright restrictions, the recordings and graphic materials may be used only for study on the site itself.

Your registration for using the site, means you agree not to download any of the digital files or graphic materials, or otherwise copy and distribute the materials in the Charlie Bernhaut Collection of Jewish and Cantorial Music.
